Our Top 5 Natural Oils For Hair Growth

Is your hair not growing like it used to.  Are you experiencing hair breakage and shedding? What about damage due to chemical treatments and too much heat? Well the first thing I would say is to cut out the chemical treatments and the heat. I think at some point many of us fall victim to the over processing of our hair. I used to get my hair relaxed regularly. It did make my hair a lot more manageable, but it also caused a whole lot of breakage and even some scalp issues.  I knew it was time to leave the relaxer behind.  But once I gave up the relaxer, I started using a lot more heat on my hair. I would flat iron my hair almost every day. Of course this caused even more damage.

Finally I realized it was time for me to let the heat go and work on nourishing my hair back to a healthy state. This was definitely a process and there is a lot of trial and error.  The main thing that I used to help nourish my hair was a variety oils.  The oils that I will be getting into are some of the top oils that really made a difference for me and I still use them today. Currently my hair is so much more healthier and I have a lot less breakage. These oils are all natural and very effective. They are known to promote hair growth, strengthen, moisturize, nourish and heal the hair and scalp.

Castor Oil / Jamaican Black Castor Oil

You will not use this the same way your grandma had you take it when you were sick lol. The oil comes from the castor bean and is one of the best oils for stimulating hair growth. It is a very thick oil and it increases blood flow to the scalp as well as supply valuable nutrients to the hair follicles. The oil will help moisturize and soften dry brittle hair. Castor oil is also great to promote growth for your eyelashes and eyebrows too.

Castor oil is full of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids that help nourish and strengthen hair. I’m actually surprised how well this oil works. Just rub the oil into the scalp and throughout the hair to the ends. Leave it in for at least 30 minutes and wash it out. You can also leave it in and use as a sealant. Since my hair is quite thick and gets dry easily, I leave it in and it helps seal in the moisture.

Amla Oil

The Amla fruit tree grows in the Middle East and India. The oil contains essential fatty acids that help strengthen hair follicles and encourage hair growth. It is very nutritious. Amla has a rich source of antioxidants, and nutrients such as Iron, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium and vitamins A and C. This oil helps to promote hair growth, assist with dandruff, prevent premature greying, help with scalp issues and conditions and softens hair. This is a very powerful oil for hair growth. Combined with other natural oils or by itself, it is a great leave in, sealant, pre-poo and can be added to your deep conditioner for additional benefits.

Rosemary

Rosemary Essential Oil is great for stimulating hair growth. This oil is quite potent so you may want to use it with a carrier oil.  Rosemary is able to replenish lost nutrients and heal scalp issues that cause hair to fall out.  It is an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and stimulate. Mixing a few drops with a carrier oil and applying to hair and scalp regularly will help stimulate hair growth as well as nourish and protect the hair.

Prickly Pear Seed Oil

Prickly Pearl (Opuntia ficus indica) is a type of cactus that is very nutritious. it is full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It is exceptionally good for the skin but is also amazing for hair as well. Being high in essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, it is great for keratin production which assists with hair growth. The oil is also known to strengthen hair as well as assist in preventing hair loss.

Batana Oil

Batana oil is a very rare oil that comes from Honduras. It is extracted from the American Palm Tree. This has got to be one of the best kept secrets for hair growth and healthy hair. The oil is known to stimulate healthy hair growth quite fast. After using the oil for 2-3 weeks I saw a noticeable difference in hair density and strength. It just might be my favorite hair oil. It has an amazing coffee-like scent and the consistency is similar to coconut oil. For even more information on this oil, check out my Batana Oil Blog . This oil is so amazing I had to write a whole article on it!

There are several herbs, oils, extracts and butters that are great for the hair but this article is about the top 5 that have worked very well for me. From Argan oil, Jojoba oil, Coconut oil, Olive oil, Grapeseed oil, Avocado oil and several others, I had to limit to 5 or I would be writing a 50-page article on all of the benefits of so many natural oils.  As with any product and routine, you have to do what works best for you. Try some of these oils out and see how you like them.  If you have already tried some of these, let us know how they have worked for you!
